The crash occurred shortly before 6:00 p.m. Wednesday on Evans City Road the near Stevenson Road intersection, according to officials with the Pennsylvania State Police Department. Police say the van pulled into the path of the school bus and the driver did not have time to stop.

“We had a passenger car – a minivan – pulling out in front of the bus, and it was struck in the side by the bus, ” said Pennsylvania State Police Corporal Dave Fries.

Emergency response crews had to cut one of the minivan’s doors in order to free a husband and wife that were trapped inside the vehicle. They were transported by helicopter to Allegheny General hospital in Pittsburgh, Fries said.

“The kids were able to get off safely, there was no problem with that,” said Fries.
