Police and Coast Guard members searched the river yesterday for the two missing people.  The remains of a young female were found, but Coast Guard officials will not say if the body is one of the victims until it is positively identified by the medical examiner’s office.

The National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating the accident through cameras along the river and interviewing crew members.

Eleven people in the accident were sent to hospitals for injuries.  Nine were released by Thursday morning.

A man was driving his motorcycle with a female passenger when he lost control and ran into a pedestrian on South Columbus Boulevard and Lombard Street.  The man driving the motorcycle was critically injured and taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.  The female passenger suffered minor injuries and was taken to The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where she is listed as in stable condition.

The pedestrian that was hit was also taken to the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital with multiple injuries.

The two workers were pouring concrete at the intersection of Dupue Avenue and Byberry Road, in Northeast Philadelphia, shortly before 10:45 a.m., when an elderly woman lost control of her vehicle and struck the men, according to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department. The workers were transported to Aria Health’s Torresdale Campus in serious condition after the crash. The men sustained multiple fractures, but are expected to survive, police say.

Firefighters worked to free the female driver from her vehicle, which struck a utility pole. Medics transported her to Aria Health after the accident, with minor injuries.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

According to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department, the accident occurred while officers were in the process of making an arrest at the intersection of Frankford and Torresdale Avenues, in the city’s Frankford section shortly after 1:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Witnesses say the driver of a Ford Explorer lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a nearby parked car. The force of the impact sent the parked vehicle into the police cruiser. The cruiser then struck one of the officers.

The injured police officer was transported to Temple University Hospital in good condition with some bumps and bruises.

The driver of the Ford Explorer is being investigated as possibly being under the influence at the time of the crash.

According to officials with the Philadelphia Police Accident Investigation Department, the tour bus was traveling along Broad Street near the Somerville Avenue intersection when the accident occurred. The bus struck a car near the intersection, which forced the bus off the roadway.

The bus then crashed into the front of a home. George Patterson said he was in his home when he saw the bus coming through the living room.

“I heard a small crash at first then a real loud one… I was just diving on the floor to keep from getting hit by the bus,” Petterson said.

Investigators say there were no passengers on board the bus at the time. However a statement released by the Philadelphia Police Department said at least one of the drivers was transported to Einstein Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the accident. Patterson was not injured in the crash.

According to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department, the accident happened at a crossing in the East Falls section of the city Thursday night. Police say no one on the train was injured. Fifty-four-year old passenger Joe Higgins said the Norristown-bound train was moving slowly as it approached a station when the accident occurred.

Many people on board the train didn’t even realize something had happened, Higgins said. Passengers remained on the train until Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority personnel took them off.

The car was sitting upside-down after the crash and appeared to have suffered significant damage.

The collision occurred shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Eaton Run Road near the intersection of Route 21, according to troopers at the Waynesburg barracks. According to officials with the Pennsylvania State Police, Bethanie Orwig and Holly Lowry, both of Nemacolin, died at the crash scene. Another victim, identified as Shelvia Lough, was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Lough’s boyfriend, Chris West, said the 29 year-old will require surgery. “They said she was stable, but I didn’t know the extent of the injuries because all I know is her car was demolished,” West said.

The woman, whose name police have not released, was traveling south on 61st Street shortly after 11:20 p.m. Saturday in a black Buick. According to officer Tanya Little of the Philadelphia Police Department, the woman was stopped at a traffic light when a green Saturn driven by a 31 year-old man crashed into her car, forcing it into the intersection, where it was struck by a westbound Kia Optima.

The woman driving the Buick, believed to be in her 30’s, was pronounced dead at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

The accident remains under investigation.

According to officials with the Conemaugh Township Police Department, 76 year-old Norman Brown was killed in the fire. Firefighters found the victim inside a vehicle that had crashed through the door of a garage. The property is located on Tunnelton Road in Conemaugh Township.

According to the Armstrong County Coroner’s Office, asphyxia due to smoke inhalation was Brown’s  cause of death. X-rays were used to identify brown due to the severity of his injuries from the fire. Officials could not comment on how the accident occurred, or what caused the fire.

The accident remains under investigation.
