PA Family Dies in Plane Crash

On Saturday morning, a plane and a helicopter crashed over the Hudson River. The helicopter contained a New Jersey pilot and five Italian tourists while the private airplane held three Pennsylvania residents. All nine were killed in the accident.

The wreckage has been extracted from the river along with seven of the bodies. However, the remaining two bodies are still unaccounted for. Crews are searching the river while an investigation continues into the crash.

Officer Fired for Hit and Run

In Crafton, a borough council voted 7 to 1 to immediately terminate a police officer who was recently implicated in a hit and run accident. The officer surrendered on July 3, and has been on suspension ever since. He offered to resign, but was fired before the resignation took effect.

The hit and run occurred on July 20, 2007. In the crash, a 24 year old man was killed. Until recently, the driver had not been found. The officer is now charged with involuntary manslaughter and other related charges.

Crash Kills 2 Children, Injures 1

Early Wednesday morning, a minivan crashed along the Ohio Turnpike in Loraine County. The driver of the minivan fell asleep around 2:30am and was side swiped by another vehicle. The minivan then rolled over, ejecting three children.

A 10 year old girl was thrown into the path of an oncoming tractor trailer and was dead at the scene. Her 5 year old brother also died when he hit the roadway. The 5 month old brother was also ejected and was critically injured and taken to Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland, OH.

Farmer Killed in Accident

In Dayton, a farmer was involved in an accident that involved machinery. The man was driving a skid loader when it toppled over in a wooded area while he was trying to remove tree limbs. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time.

The man was found by his family Saturday afternoon. In falling over, the skid loader had pinned the man’s head and neck between the rig and a lift attached to it. He died before being found. No one else was involved in the accident.

Trucker Killed by Forklift

On Tuesday morning, a trucker who was working at the George W Long & Sons Lumber Yard in Cambria County was involved in an accident. The man was loading lumber into his tractor trailer when he fell, causing a forklift to start up.

According to the coroner, the man fell from the truck onto the forklift’s controls, setting the boom into motion. The man’s chest was crushed between the roof and the boom of the forklift, killing him.
