Teen hit by trolley survives with only leg injuries

Posted on April 4th, 2011 No Comments

Last week, a 19-year old man survived being trapped under a trolley for an hour and escaped the accident with only leg injuries.  The teen, James Tyson, was running to catch the trolley at the 69th Street Terminal and trying to get the conductor’s attention when the sidewalk narrowed and he became trapped between the trolley car and fencing.

Tyson fell and became trapped underneath the trolley car.  Emergency crews and paramedics were able to rescue the man by shutting off the rail system and using air bags to lift the car up.  Tyson was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with non-life-threatening leg injuries.

Tour Bus Collides with Car, Home in Philadelphia

Posted on May 18th, 2010 No Comments

A tour bus collided with a car and then crashed into the front of a home in North Philadelphia Saturday.

According to officials with the Philadelphia Police Accident Investigation Department, the tour bus was traveling along Broad Street near the Somerville Avenue intersection when the accident occurred. The bus struck a car near the intersection, which forced the bus off the roadway.

The bus then crashed into the front of a home. George Patterson said he was in his home when he saw the bus coming through the living room.

“I heard a small crash at first then a real loud one… I was just diving on the floor to keep from getting hit by the bus,” Petterson said.

Investigators say there were no passengers on board the bus at the time. However a statement released by the Philadelphia Police Department said at least one of the drivers was transported to Einstein Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the accident. Patterson was not injured in the crash.
