Pennsylvania native John Anczarski was bicycling across the country beginning in his hometown of Ringtown, Pennsylvania to California to raise money for breast cancer research when he was involved in a tragic accident. The 19-year old was struck by a car in a reservation in Laguna, New Mexico about fifty miles west of Albuquerque.

Anczarski’s friends were with him when a sport utility vehicle hit him yesterday, leaving him with serious head injuries. Anczarski later passed away at a nearby hospital.

The U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs will handle the investigation because the accident occurred on tribal lands. The driver was said to be an older male member of the reservation, but his identity has not yet been released.

Anczarski’s friend who were with him at the time of the accident are speaking out to inform the public of their friend’s wrongful death and the terrible costs that careless driving mistakes can have.

Our sincerest sympathies go out to Anczarski’s family and friends.

According to court documents, 46 year-old Thomas Senavitis, of Kunkletown, Pennsylvania, is accused for driving drunk and causing the two-vehicle crash that fatally injured Senator James Rhoades on October 17, 2008. Monroe County Assistant District Attorney, Colleen Mancuso, told jurors in her closing argument that Senavitis had a blood-alcohol level more than four times the legal limit when crossed into oncoming traffic lanes and struck Rhoades’ vehicle.

Defense attorney Wes Niemoczynski, representing Senavitis’, argued that Senator Rhoades was at fault in the crash. Niemoczynski said the lawmaker veered into the defendant’s lane to avoid a minivan parked on the side of the road. He also disputed the reliablity of the blood test performed on Senavitis.

The fatal car wreck occurred on Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township.

The dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs have been known for decades, yet efforts to crack down on this problem are relatively new. Despite the hard work of law enforcement agents and activist groups such as MADD, drunk driving remains a serious danger on our roads. In Pennsylvania alone, drunk driving killed 1,517 people in 2006.

Pennsylvania law has serious penalties for people who drive under chemical influence, especially if they injure another person. Unfortunately, they do not do much to help the victims of these negligent drivers. While it may be satisfying to see drunk drivers punished with fines or jail time, their victims can be left with serious problems.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department officials confirmed that the man behind the wheel of the Pekiomen Valley school bus in a crash that killed two last week, Fredrick Post III, was involved in a crash in 1999 that killed 2-1/2-year-old Morgan Lee Pena. Post’s driving history did not preclude him from a job driving for the school district. Lynette F. Vivani, a spokeswoman for the district, said that the circumstances of Post’s past citations were unknown at the time of his hiring.

“Neither the criminal nor motor vehicle reports show any record of Mr. Poust being charged with a crime or any details about the 1999 accident.” Vivani said.

Pennsyvlania Department of Education guidelines only require companies to investigate driving incidents that occurred five years prior to the driver being employed.

Because the 1999 accident occurred nearly 10 years earlier and Mr. Poust had a valid CDL, no subsequent violations, came highly recommended by his previous employer, and completed all state and STA required safe driver training, he began driving…in March.”

Prosecutors alleged that Bruno ran at least two red lights before he crashed into a car driven by 22 year-old Chad Horne, of Freehold, New Jersey. Horne was killed instantly, as were his two passengers, 52 year-old Robin Villegas, of Staten Island, New York and 43 year-old Terri Buskirk, of Bethlehem Township.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, four vehicles were involved in an accident shortly before 8 am on Friday morning. Ed Asbury, trooper for the Chambersburg police, said a car and van were traveling northbound on Mt. Rock Road when the van swerved to avoid a car that had slowed near the Possum Hollow intersection. The van then struck a southbound dump truck. All three vehicles caught fire in the collision.

Jeff Conner, a Franklin County Coroner, pronounced one person dead at the scene of the accident. The identity of the victim will not be released until the coroner’s office has been able to notify the family.

The driver of the car and dump truck were transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Their names have also not been released. The driver of the car that was stopped at the Possum Hollow intersection was not injured according to Asbury.

A Pittsburgh man accused of running over the husband of his ex-girlfriend, killing him, has been ordered to stand trial.

Thirty-five-year-old Bethel Park resident, Jason Kasper, was held on charges of homicide and homicide by vehicle. A charge of homicide by vehicle while under the influence was dropped.

According to police, Kasper dated Tracy Pavlick after she separated from 49 year-old John Pavlick last year. The couple reconciled and police say Kasper went to the Pavlick residence on November 1 after seeing the two of them at a Halloween party.

Police say Kasper drove his car onto John Pavlick, crushing him. Kasper told police that Pavlick jumped onto the hood of his car.

30 year-old Andrew Denezza is also charged with aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence. Charles Kellar, chief of the Harrisburg Police says that Denezza’s blood-alcohol content was above the legal limit. Kellar also stated that Denezza tested positive for marijuana and told officers that he was texting at the time of the crash.

According to the Harrisburg police, Denezza’s car crossed the center line on Harrisburg’s Market Street Bridge shortly before 2:35 a.m. on October 3. He struck a taxi head-on. Taxicab driver Michael Amissah, 34, and passenger Kristin Bowser, 28, were both killed in the crash. Kristin’s husband, 31 year-old Christopher Bower, was injured.

The Philadelphia based Entercom Communication Corp. at its Sacremento subsidiary have denied liability in the death of a woman who participated in a radio station water-drinking contest.

Entercom said that Jennifer Lea Strange’s death was not foreseeable. Prosecutor for Strange’s family, Roger A. Dryer, said the evidence against Entercom was “overwhelming.” The lawsuit claimed that Entercom’s corporate officials failed to train their management personnel properly. Dryer said that disc jokeys on KDND’s Morning Rave Show knew ahead of time about a 2005 water intoxication death at California State University, and were warned by callers during the show that there was potential danger in the stations “Hold Your Wee For A Wii” contest.

Still, Dryer said, the station changed the rules in the middle of the contest so as to double contestants water intake and failed to get medical care for Strange even though she vomited in the studio and complained of head pains. Dryer asked the jury to award his clients between $24.62 million and #34.45 million in restitution. Dryer asked the jurors to “understand the value of a mother. Understand and appreciate the value of a mother, a lover, a companion and a best friend.”

The family of a 9 year-old boy in Providence, Rhode Island has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against a city pool in Augusta after the boy drowned.

Jameson Auciel died on August 10, three days after he was pulled unconscious from the McGrane Pool in the city’s west end. Auciel’s 8 year old cousin, Gamaelle Bazelais, was also pulled unconscious out of the pool that day. Bazelais survived.

The lawyer for the Auciel family, Kenneth Schreiber, told reporters that the drowning was a “clear case of negligence.”

The city of Augusta has 40 days to issue a response to the claims. If the city does not respond, the family can file a lawsuit. City officials have stated that the pool was adequately supervised and deny and liability in the boy’s death.
