Last week, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a nationwide recall of a common oral contraceptive produced by Pfizer, Inc. The recall affects 1 million 28-day packages of Lo/Ovral-28 and generic Norgestrel birth control pills.
Pfizer called for the recall after a consumer informed them that their birth control pack had a different colored pill mixed in with the others. Officials believe a packaging error most likely caused the hormone and sugar pills to be packaged in the incorrect order. In addition, the company noted the possibility of there being an incorrect amount of hormone or sugar pills.
This packaging error puts women taking this medication at risk of unintended pregnancy. Women who take the recalled contraceptives should begin taking another type of contraceptive immediately.
