An elderly woman in western Pennsylvania was killed by a car on her way to Easter Sunday church service.
According to Washington County Deputy Coroner Tim Warco, 81 year-old Shirly Howarth walked between two parked cars onto the street, in front of Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church Sunday when the accident occurred. Authorities say she was struck shortly before 8:00 a.m. by a car driven by a 75 year-old man, who was also on his way to the church.
Howarth was transported to Canonsburg Hospital following the accident. She was pronounced dead on arrival.
Coroner Warco ruled Howarth’s death an accident. Cannonsburg police Sergeant Don Cross called the incident “an unfortunate accident” and says he does not anticipate filing charges.
