A man is in critical condition following an overnight accident between a car and two tractor trailers in South Philadelphia.
According to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department, the accident occurred in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 between the Girard Point Bridge and the Walt whitman Bridge shortly before 3:00 a.m. Police say one of the tractor trailers, owned by the United States Postal Service, collided with another semi-truck owned by Rite-Aid. The impact of the crash, forced one of the big rigs into a passenger car, causing it to flip over, and trapping the driver inside.
Firefighters worked to free the 40 year-old driver of the car. The injured man was transported by fire-rescue to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in critical condition.
Neither of the drivers of the tractor trailers were injured in the wreck.
