Mother of UP Student Killed in Crash Files Suit Against Toyota

Posted on March 2nd, 2010 No Comments

The mother of a University of Pittsburgh student killed in a 2007 car crash filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Toyota Motor Corp Monday.

Sandra Livingston, of Roosevelt, New York, filed the lawsuit after her daughter, 21 year-old Tyrene Livingston, was killed in an accident four days after seeking brake repairs for her 2007 Toyota Yaris. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles federal court, claims the fatal crash was caused by problems associated with sudden aceleration, problems which have been highly publicized.

Court documents say Livingston’s Yaris “crossed four lanes of the highway at a high rate of speed, went over a curb, crashed through a guardrail, went down an embankment, and into some trees, eventually resulting in [Tyrene's] death.”

Todd Walburg, one of the attorneys representing Sandra Livingston, said the accident had a profound impact on his client, “Her daughter was the love of her life… When she was killed, Sandra Livingston was devastated.”
