The U.S. Transportation Department announced on Thursday that it has opened a full investigation into brake problems in the 2010 model year Prius.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it received in excess of 120 reports of brake problems from consumers, including four linked to crashes. A report released by the agency says “some consumers describe the condition as a brief lag in braking capability or a brief surge while braking.”
Toyota released a statement saying it will “cooperate fully” with the NHTSA’s investigation. They blame the braking problem on a software glitch in the new anti-lock brake system.
