An inmate in the Cook County Jail in Chicago is suing the sheriff after she slipped and fell on grease while working in the kitchen of the jail.
Toshiba Williams claims that while she was an inmate and assigned to the kitchen of the Cook County Jail as a laborer, she was carrying a large pot of hot oatmeal when she slipped and fell on an accumulation of grease on the floor.
The pot of oatmeal she was carrying fell, spilling its contents on Williams’ face, causing severe and permanent burns. Williams asserts in her complaint that the sheriff and his employees and agents were negligent when they “required Toshiba, who is less than 5 feet tall and under 100 pounds, to lift a large and heavy pot of hot oatmeal.”
